LODO, evolution of L’Orciolo D’Oro, is the oldest competition in the world dedicated to EVOO, born from an idea of Marta Cartoceti in 1985 and organised since the 1st edition with her daughter Manuela Vigo.
Our strength lies in the continuity of the family tradition.
We are the only professional international context that boasts 32 consecutive editions.
LODO promotes and announces the International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Selections for the international guide LODO GUIDE 2024.
The guide promotes the best olive oils in the world, raising awareness about extra virgin olive oils of excellence.
LODO is a Qualifying Gourmet QG project, whose distinguishing feature lies in the quality and aesthetic of each product presented.
Via scientific and technical campaigns aimed at communicating the qualitative and health properties associated with extra virgin olive oil, LODO raises consumer awareness about the benefits of daily use of this wonderful food.
Olive oil producers achieving in the LODO competition enjoy increased visibility on world markets, thanks to marketing campaigns aimed at stimulating the purchase of LODO award-winning products.
In particular via the promotion, distribution and marketing of the oil promoted by the guide through our e-commerce platform www.lodoguidestore.com.
Only companies that join the competition and obtain a score of 85/100 or higher will be able to be listed on our platform.
The intention is also that of encouraging olive growers and oil producers to continuously strive to improve the quality of their products.
We support olive growers by accompanying them, where required, through all phases of cultivation and production up to sensory analysis, helping them where necessary to detect possible problems and identify possible defects.
We collaborate with the most accredited and authoritative professionals in the sector and provide professional advice.

With LODO Calling, the new newspaper, we will report on the reality around us from a different point of view than usual. The name is a reference to what Lodo has represented and still represents, with its history, but it also wants to open up to the future, to new forms of communication.
The new magazine wants to be a catalyst for trends, a litmus test of what surrounds us: from food to photography, from fashion to architecture, from music to design, from moods to everything that is trendy, without neglecting that from which everything originated: Extravirgin Olive Oil.
To do this we will tell stories, and the protagonists of those stories, we will interview well-known personalities and experts in each sector we will talk about.
A task that we have decided to tackle with articles written by our team: the editorial staff, an important network of contributors, and a number of signatures from the most diverse fields, who have decided to embrace the LODO Calling project.
The LODO GUIDE was established with the goal of spreading the word about the culture surrounding EVOO, promoting the territories where the olives are grown and of course, putting the producers themselves at centre stage.
In synergy with the LODO project, autumn 2021 saw the launch of a new format:
Olive-growing territories, producers, routes, culture and tourism lie at the heart of LODO LE STRADE DELL’OLIO. From a competition and accompanying guide, aimed at showcasing the best international olive production, to the roads of Italy and the entire world. An exciting journey through some of the most productive regions in the form of an itinerant film from the best oil mills and producers.
A fascinating account of professions, traditions, landscapes and gastronomic excellence.
Images, words, experiences.
The project started with the production of the first 4 short films in 4 regions: Marche, Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. For each region, 4 of the territory’s best olive oil producers participated to form an itinerary consisting of 4 routes, each one leading to a producer.
Starting out from a well-known regional city, the proposed itinerary has been developed via the creation of short films about the itineraries proposed in the guide, which document the journey with images of villages, monuments, and other particular attractions symbolic of the territory itself.
At each destination, we filmed a presentation of each producer with a focus on its facilities, its team and the oil produced.
Itinerant culture, and a poetic of images which narrate the professional realities underlying these products of excellence, by promoting awareness of these territories and their businesses.

It is the competition dedicated to evo-based condiments and oils flavoured with natural flavourings.
The evolution of the agri-food sector, dictated both by changing lifestyles and by the continually ‘refining’ research of consumers all over the world, who have become more ‘cultured’, original and demanding, has led to a significant growth of a slice of the market for innovative and high quality products. This is how the proposal and demand for products such as extra virgin olive oil-based condiments took shape, deserving special attention as they are sought after and used in all levels of cuisine.
With LODO SCENT GOURMET we select the best flavours from around the world.
We are a Qualifying Gourmet Project that promotes absolute quality and the company requirement is the commercialisation of the product. Our aim is to recognise, enhance and promote quality, believing that this characteristic is independent of the quantity of oil produced.
With this in mind, large productions that respect high quality standards will be highlighted in the guide with a dedicated icon.
The following regulations apply to both LODO – MILAN IOOC and LODO SCENT GOURMET competitions unless otherwise specified
The Competition is open to EVOO producers, whether individual or associated, and is reserved for extra virgin olive oils classified as such according to the parameters and rules established by EC regulations 2568/91, 1989/03 and 510/06 and subsequent updates. The minimum total company production quantity required for participation in the contest is 5 Quintals (500kg).
The evoo samples admitted to the Competition, after an organoleptic examination and documentation by the Management, will be subjected to a further organoleptic examination carried out in accordance with the provisions of Annex XII to EC Reg. 2568/91, 1989/03 and 510/06, by an International Jury of certified tasters entered in the Lists or Lists of tasters established in accordance with the regulations in force, belonging to the various associations/ delegations of tasters involved, from Italy and abroad.
Samples may be subjected, at the request of the Management or the Jury, even if only for certain parameters, to a chemical-physical examination at an analysis laboratory chosen by the Management, which will bear the costs.
El análisis sensorial de la Dirección y del Jurado es definitivo e incuestionable.
The Management guarantees that the samples for the tasting selections and / or those sent to the analysis laboratory will be fully anonymised in keeping with the ordinary procedures. The Management guarantees the correct execution of the process at all times.
The samples submitted are stored in a dark environment at a constant temperature of 13/14 degrees centigrade in order to ensure their optimal preservation.
LODO – MILANO IOOC is divided into 2 phases:
The first phase is dedicated to the Northern Hemisphere, and the second phase to the Southern Hemisphere.
The first phase opens on 9th November and ends on 15th March.
Sensory analyses will be performed each time the samples arrive in order to capture all the taste and olfactory nuances that an extra virgin olive oil can give us.
The second phase opens on 15th March and ends on 15th June.
Companies in the Northern Hemisphere that were not able to enter the first phase because they were either awaiting certification or various other reasons that made it impossible for the company to enter the first phase may participate in the second phase. All participating samples whether from the Northern or Southern Hemisphere compete for the same Awards and Recognitions.
Flavoured extra virgin oil-based seasonings from a minimum marketed batch of 50 litres in the single category are allowed:
The tastings will be carried out on a case-by-case basis as the samples arrive.
